Phil's BBQ recipe

Barbecue tofu

Smoked tofu is available at most health food stores, and is an ideal canvas for trying out new flavours and marinades - like this one for example!

This recipe is perfect if you've got vegetarians over for a barbie - it serves four to six people and takes hardly any time to put together and cook.

Preparation time: 10 minutes / Cooking time: 15 minutes / Serves 4-6 people

 

 

Ingredients:

2 x 500g blocks of smoked tofu, well drained

2 pinches hot chilli powder

4 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce

2 pinches sea salt

2 cloves of garlic finely chopped

2 tsp cracked black pepper

1 lemon cut in half

2 tsp ground cumin

 

 

Method

1. Place all the ingredients apart from the tofu into a bowl and mix well. This will create a delicious marinade.

2. Now add the tofu to the marinade, and make sure it is well covered. Ideally, leave in the fridge overnight.

3. Heat the barbecue to high, then add the slabs of tofu. Meanwhile, place the half lemon (cut side down) along side the tofu to cook.

4. Cook the tofu for just a few minutes on each side, allowing it to brown nicely and warm through to the centre. Once it's cooked, slice the tofu and squeeze the roasted lemon over for an extra dash of flavour.
