Making a connection - our regulator guide

Connecting your Calor gas cylinder to your barbecue equipment may not be the most glamorous aspect of the alfresco lifestyle, but it’s certainly a means to an end. Fail to connect your cylinder correctly and you won’t be enjoying any delicious grilled food at all! It’s important then, to get it right.

How to fit a Patio Gas^TM cylinder

These instructions feature the basic principles of cylinder connection – please refer to the manual’s wording for details specific to your model of regulator.

1. First of all ensure that you are using an easy, clip-on regulator as opposed to the older regulators which required tools to be used.

2. Make sure that:

• Your regulator is switched to the ‘off’ or ‘disconnect’ position

• All taps on the barbecue are closed

• The hose pipe connecting to the barbecue is correctly fitted and securely in position.

Tip: If your equipment has been in storage a long while, it's worth checking the inlet valves for spiders and other insects who like to nest there. Obstructions can stop the flow of gas to your barbecue, and cause a dangerous build-up.

3. Put the regulator on top of the cylinder valve and, placing your hand on top of the regulator, push directly downwards until you hear a click.

4. Once the regulator is fitted, switch to the ‘on’ position as indicated on the regulator.

How to disconnect a Patio Gas^TM cylinder

Once you’ve cooked up your feast on the grill, it’s time to disconnect your Calor cylinder.

1. Switch the regulator into the ‘off’ position, making sure that the barbecue flame is extinguished.

2. Push the on/off switch, then pull upwards to disconnect.

IMPORTANT: Remember never to attempt disconnecting a cylinder when your regulator is in the on (or open) position.
