Herbs and Spices

Use the links below to take a look at the huge amount of herbs and spices just waiting to flavour your barbecue meals!

Most people new to barbecuing simply throw some meat on the barbecue, cook it and serve it to their friends on a hot summer day. The beauty of barbecuing means that this alone will probably be enough to impress! However, when simply chargrilled meats lose their appeal, there is an alternative -add some herbs and spices to give your meals a revitalising new flavour.

If you are not too confident about mixing herbs or spices together yourself then use the extensive experience of Schwartz who have expertly produced some very tasty herb and spice mixes ready for use. An excellent example is their American Barbecue Seasoning. This will add a delicious smoky flavour to grilled or barbecued chicken, pork chops, burgers and sausages.

Adding some herbs, spices or a mixture of the two, before putting the meat on the barbecue will really enhance the meat's taste. You could, for example, rub a mixture of basil, tarragon, chives, and garlic onto steaks before grilling them. Try it at your next barbecue and notice the difference! The full details can be found in our recipe for Savoury Herbed Steak.

Or how about making a marinade from yoghurt, tomato puree, curry powder, garlic and coriander leaf. Add some cubed chicken breasts and marinade for one hour in the fridge. Then make some kebabs by putting them on a skewer and grill. Hey presto a wonderfully tastey marinated chicken dinner.

Thanks to our friends at Schwartz we have been able to include detailed information about a large range of herbs and spices, including what to look for to ensure good quality and how to use them.
